Restaurants in Sarnia Ontario With Music, Near Water and Parks

Restaurants in Sarnia Ontario patio

For a City of seventy thousand people, Sarnia has an extensive list of options for eating out. From Indian to Sushi, and pub grub to Mexican, there’s multiple establishments offering competitive cuisine and it’s up to the guest to choose the setting. The two busy areas where most locals venture to have dinner are Downtown Sarnia and London Road (French Fries under the Blue Water Bridge are always an honourable outcast worth mentioning). There are other singular operations such as Maison St-Aubin’s French cuisine on Lakeshore Road (North side of the city), or Big Fish on London Line (also known as the Golden Mile).

Restaurants in Sarnia Near The Water

There’s two types of patrons that visit Sarnia Restaurants: there’s the local population and there’s the tourists and temporary visitors. As the gorgeous waterfront offers some of the best scenery on the coast of Lake Huron or the St. Clair River, it tends to attract people during the warm months. These people need to eat. A few down town establishments are a close walk from Centennial Park, and there is also a cluster of three restaurants on the opposite side of the park. Paddy Flaherty’s and Stokes By The Bay have always been popular when patio season hits. Paddy’s offers live entertainment and attracts bands from all over to play indoors or on their patio in the summertime. The third place is located right on the marina, and they have an excellent breakfast menu. Alternate Grounds Dockside has a nice patio overlooking the marina and visitors and boat owners frequent this spot.

On the right day you can’t go wrong with any of those patios….

The Downtown Sarnia Restaurant Circuit

With the facelift the downtown core is receiving these days – new stores and eating establishments popping up – you really have a good selection to choose from. Busy nights to watch out for are the First Fridays of each month (unless crowds and community are your thing), and nights when the Imperial Theatre has a live performance. Typically the window between 5-745 are peak times during then, as theatre-goers are having a pre-show beverage and meal.

Are All Restaurants on Skip the Dishes?

With the advent of Skipthedishes to the city, a food delivery ordering service, it allows locals to enjoy dine-in food quality at home. As this list continues to expands, it will be interesting how restaurants manage the influx of take-out. Overall I think it is a positive for the restaurant owners.

Sarnia Restaurants with Entertainment

As mentioned above, Alternate Grounds Dockside’s patio is not only good for a pint and meal, but they have local acoustic sets occasionally to serenade your ears. Ups and Downs on Front street have open mic sessions and bands come through… and other downtown spots turn into a venue very once in a while. To keep up to speed on the upcoming events check out the establishment’s website or our Events section. The Station is now closed, a long-running venue for live bands and music. There has yet to be a place to step up and replace the calibre of talent booking and music entertainment.

Parent Spotlight: Holiday Inn Sarnia Hotel & Conference Centre

holiday inn sarnia room

Located along Highway 402, Holiday Inn Sarnia Hotel & Conf Centre is the perfect place to accommodate your kids next weekend tournament. This hotel is in an ideal location to keep everyone in the family happy!

The Holiday Inn Sarnia For Sports Teams

The other weekend, my sons hockey team needed to find a place to stay for his weekend tournament in Sarnia, ON. Finding a location to accommodate the entire family and as well as the entire team is typically not the most fun task. The Holiday Inn Sarnia Hotel & Conference Centre was one of the best tournament weekends we’ve had! The hotel has 216 rooms, with a lot close by to keep everyone happy! The location is equipped with a fitness centre and heated indoor and outdoor pools for the team to blow off some steam.

The Holiday Inn offered complimentary breakfast and free wifi which are essentials when travelling in large groups with young kids. Kids under the age of 11 eat free any time of the day. Free wifi and breakfast for the kids always helps for a less stressful weekend. Moms, you know what I’m talking about! Choosing a hotel is key!

Holiday Inn is Close to the US Border

Best of all the Holiday Inn & Conference Centre is just minutes from the Michigan border. When the boys were at hockey, the moms snuck off to Port Huron for some shopping in the USA. Only 20 minutes away, this was a great quick getaway that was for us moms. It’s always a good weekend when moms get to shop Port Huron’s shopping includes Old Navy, Target, Kohl’s, Ulta, TJ Maxx and a newly opened Cabela’s. Once the dad’s found out about the Cabela’s they just had to go check it out the next day!

Saturday Night we made our way to the Marcin Bowl. I would highly recommend booking a couple lanes in advance, as the staff told us they fairly busy on weekends. Nevertheless, this was a great place for the kids and the parents! Marcin Bowl has a bar and a pool table for the parents and lots of lanes and food to keep the kids busy. The bowling alley was only 3 minutes from our hotel, so we were not hesitant to call a taxi when the parents had a little too much fun.

There’s Lots Going on Nearby

Our short time in Sarnia ON, was a great one. We found lots of activities for entire family to enjoy the weekend away. The boys spent all their free time in the pool and the trip to the bowling alley gave us all a chance to get out of the hotel. The hotel staff were very forgiving about the noise of the team. After talking to locals and staff at the hotel, we are definitely coming back to Sarnia, ON. to experience the city in the warmer months. My kids would have loved to spend the day on the beach with the view of the bridge, and even enjoy some fries under the bridge. I can imagine being along the water in Sarnia’s warmer summer months would be a beautiful place to be. Who knows, maybe we will even look for a cottage here!

Located on the campus of Lambton College, the 5500 capacity Progressive Auto Sales Arena is best known for being home ice for the Sarnia Sting, Sarnia’s OHL team. This arena was previously known as the RBC Centre and the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre. It is common that people still refer to it as previously named, and some frequent visitors still inquire about Sarnia Hotels near RBC Centre.

Visitors to the area are typically drawn by OHL games, a live event or concert, or a hockey tournament. Searching for accommodation is difficult in that area of the city of Sarnia because there is not much around. In fact, the closest hotel to the arena is the Comfort Inn Sarnia located just off the 402 Highway. It’s a convenient place to stay and offers quick access to the US border.
